Dear Wellness Seekers,

Good News Monday: Jensen Beach Promises Baby Sea Turtles is so exciting.

It is not often you get to see something so extraordinary it brings tears to your eyes. This morning I experienced a very rewarding Self Care Reflection Walk on a new beach with my sister-in-law who adores nature as much as I do – maybe more. Times like these are to be treasured where one can just smell the salt air, search for shells along shoreline, watch the children build sand castles and watch blue canvas of the sky unfold with dramatic beams of light and heavy rain clouds dancing on the horizon where the water meets the sky.

The Discoveries of the Day:

1. It is sea turtle nesting season. One could see what appears to be large tire tracks coming up from the beach and stopping on the top of the sand crest where stopping to create a big circular donut looking mounds. Upon closer examination one could suddenly imagine large sea turtles flippers pulling across the sand to their nesting destination. The mounds are where the egg nest is! Then you could see another path leaving the nest going back to the ocean. This all happens at night at a certain tide. See the baby sea turtle video below!

Then, along came a beach scout whose purpose was checking the shoreline for just this kind of occurrence. She demounted her all terrain vehicle to tape off the area so that the eggs would be protected from both humans and exploring animals in the food chain.  Once her task was completed she told us there would be an ‘egg counting expert’ to check on the nest’s holdings – to count them and make notes to track the promise of babies and the overall habits of this favored and protected species. Yes, this person actually digs up the eggs ever so gently to count them and nest them back into place for the duration of the hatch period. See her below. yes those sea turtle flipper tracks.

2. The sea sky never lacks drama. It offers an expansive, entertaining backdrop of moody blues this morning. You can see for yourself the creative force of light and rain it painted. To my delight, to make the morning complete when I turned around to pace my way back up the beach after a couple of miles from whence I came, this full rainbow shown its colors like a coastal bridge.

Spanista Takeaway- Good News Monday: Jensen Beach Promises Baby Sea Turtles is a now a time to wait patiently as the hatching process takes from 45 to 50 days . This is a video of last years offspring – they look so tiny and fragile one wonders how they could ever survive the big vast ways of the deep ocean, but yet they do.

Good-News-Monday:-Jensen-Beach-Promises-Baby-Sea-Turtle.MOV_3012

Perhaps like the precious sea turtles we have great inbred instincts for survival – perhaps greater powers than we ever thought we possessed. Perhaps if we turn inward to recognize the natural gifts we are given and thus love ourselves more for them, we will unlock our inherent power to offer the world our gifts, so we can draw upon them to live life more fully and joyfully.

Nature can teach us so much if we take the time to observe with an open heart.

Piquant-French-Inspired-Journey-To-Joy.jpegPINIMAGEPiquant-French-Inspired-Journey-To-Joy-3.jpegPINIMAGE

Dear Wellness Seekers,

Piquant French Inspired Journey to Joy suggests to play is to return to joy, our natural state of being. When you think of adult play all kinds of images surface in our minds – of course depending upon what you enjoy, Today I am highlighting the simple easy to access kind that does not cost a lot but returns great value in spirit.

When in Tampa, I have a favorite coffee spot – a French Cafe that is creating hand-crafted bakery right in their kitchen. It is called Piquant in Hyde Park. You can see and taste the love in every yummy offering. My French grandmother professed that bringing a bit of deliciousness into your day the French way is a part of experiencing the joy of life. She especially loved the charm of street cafe from her homeland. As she shared her philosophies when I was very a young girl I recall, to her, this daily experience was an expression of self care. A love of oneself. I would like to share her beliefs:

~ She believes it is playtime – if you are alone or engaging in conversation with a friend.

~ She believes the aromas and intimate conversation raises the senses.

~ She believes if we are aware of the moments in our daily lives they pass with a taste of sweetness that dilutes the bitterness life can dish out. It makes you feel alive and contributes to overall contentment.

~ She believes that French Pastries are worth every bite and that moderation of all eating was the key through our the day so you would not deny yourself these happy moments.

So today I have having my first cronut from the Piquant’s pastry chef’s talented hands. So yummy indeed!

Also, I eyed these lovely min-mouse desserts. This inspires me to call my friend Kathleen again to meet for a catch up hat and a treat soon.

So my time at Piquant is rich for many reasons because to me my Coffee Time is my Play Time Ritual. I do come to dream, ideate, create and enjoy the atmosphere and tastes.

Piquant French Inspired Journey to Joy has taught me that after devoted self care time at Piquant, I feel lighter and brighter. I am loving my journey to joy. Thank you Grand Mother for giving me this special sense of appreciation for the French Way. And Piquant is the real thing!

Good-News-Monday:-Basquiat-Rediscovered-Genius.jpegPINIMAGE

Dear Wellness Seekers,

Basquiat Rediscovered Genius Leaves Life Lessons is a happy discovery in a recent issue of New Your Times Style Magazine. I found Jean-Michel Basquiat interesting when he caught the public eye in the 80’s and today as a Spanista I find him even more fascinating. While it is sad that he is no longer with us due to an untimely death, I am excited to know there is renewed interest in his talents – his neo-expressionist creative work and the many dimensions of his creative spirit redefined art. I was and continue to be drawn to his early work as part of SAMO – where his inspired interpretation of words as graphic images capture my imagination and still even more so today.

While I was in New York recently, I came upon a great t-shirt with his name with crown icon in his handwriting. I had to have it to support his memory. He was so ahead of his time. Funny that he would surface in “T” so soon after the purchase.

Good-News-Monday:-Basquiat-Rediscovered-Genius-2.jpegPINIMAGE

Jean-Michel Basquiat (December 22, 1960 – August 12, 1988) was an American artist, musician and producer. But ultimately he was a poet with exceptional ability to par down feelings into the essence of rhythmic story as art.

The NYTimes Magazine feature by Lu Sante, “The Rediscovered Genius of Jean-Michel Basquiat” talks about his unknown 8 notebooks now owned by Larry Warsh that just went on display at the Brooklyn Museum.  If you are there check it out. They hold the late artist’s rarely seen personal writings and sketches that are expressions of 1980’s downtown New York and perhaps holds his truest vision. To put this is context we are talking about a period in history when Wall Street’s plush power and wealth was at a new peak of indulgences when drugs flowed easily amongst the monied. The art world was deeply intertwined with Wall Street.

His rise to fame was meteoric, but his growing heroin addiction began to interfere with his personal relationships. Concepts like Self Awareness and Self Care were not in our cultural lexicon then. It was an indulgent and materialistic period in our history that eventually went awry. His story is one of struggling genius so read on.

As an adult Jean-Michel dealt with challenges that stem back to his youth – he was a precocious child learning how to read and write by 4 – and demonstrated he was a gifted artist. His mother and became institutionalized when he was 11. He was struck by a car and took time to recover. His father pushed his troubled son out on the street as a teen. Basquiat worked  odd jobs to stay alive and joined a special art school for troubled kinds where is talents were channeled productively. But his emotional wounds ran deep by then.

Good-News-Monday:-Basquiat-Rediscovered-Genius-1.jpegPINIMAGE

Per Wikipedia – “One day Jean-Michel and Andy Warhol crossed paths which lead to a close, collaborative friendship. When Andy Warhol died on February 22, 1987, Basquiat became increasingly isolated, and his heroin addiction and depression grew more severe. Despite an attempt at sobriety, Basquiat died on August 12, 1988, of a heroin overdose at his art studio in New York City’s NoHo neighborhood. He was 27.”

A life of great energy that could have been channeled with Self Care practices perhaps? Read more about him on Basquiat.com.

Spanista Takeaway: Basquiat Rediscovered Genius Leaves Life Lessons reminds us how precious yet challenging life’s journey can be, especially if one has talents that make one different from the norm. And how channeling personal pain must be addressed productively as to survive it. We all experience pain sometime or another, so how do we manage it to our advantage? It is dangerous to mask it with drugs of any sort as a long-term solution. Today we can turn to Self Awareness and Self Care Practices to deal with our emotional pain points. Spanista suggests when one feels out of touch, it is best to get in touch with one’s body. Get out of one’s head in order to feel what the body tells us.  Then we can go about constructively exploring the right path to healing body, heart and mind for the better. May Basquiat’s experience be a story we learn from.

Would love your thoughts about lessons from Basquiat’s life?

Ginny

Good-News-Monday:-April-Blossoms-JasminePINIMAGEGood-News-Monday:-April-Blossoms-JasminePINIMAGE

Dear Wellness Seekers,

Good News Monday: April Blossoms Jasmine’s Soulful Scent brings you its  intoxicating freshness. If jasmine are in bloom, it’s April here in Tampa Bay. So I want to share it with you as a moment to escape. Just use your imagination, take in these pics and breath in. Now repeat. Can you smell them too?

This week, my Spanista Reflection Walk takes place in the early evening, so I am thrilled to experience its night time powers again. As the fragrance envelops me with joy, I can not help but wonder, does the jasmine flower hold some magical property, capable of affecting our heart, soul, and body?  After all, its beauty and sweet scent have been known to inspire writers enough to name the jasmine “the poet’s flower.” Here is one quote I love:

“Many a perfume breathed From plants that wake when others sleep From timid jasmine buds that keep Their odour to themselves all day But when the sun light dies away Let the delicious secret out To every breeze that roams about” ~ Thomas Moore

The Spiritual Nature of Jasmine goes beyond its beauty and lovely fragrance. This plant also holds energy as an essential oil. It is believed by herbalists that every essential oil holds an energy vibration that resonates with the human body. What qualities does jasmine essential oil possess? Down through the ages its association is of jasmine to love. Perhaps this is why jasmine is so often associated with weddings. And in some circles jasmine is also associated with prophetic dreaming.

Speaking of dreaming, did you know that the scent of jasmine is strongest in the evening and night? No wonder jasmine is attributed to prophetic dreams. Jasmine is associated with Venus, the planet of love, and also with the moon. Bella Luna, my beautiful moon.

Seasons of Spanista believes Spring is the time to Dream big. A time to go deep with in to explore your hearts desires, plan for the months ahead and paint of picture of the possibilities for life ahead. Applying jasmine oil can help renew lost interest. It can also help increase inner strength. Jasmine bridges the gap of body and spirit. Spiritually, jasmine can aid with emotional inner peace, and calming of the mind so it  facilitates focused meditation or healing.

Jasmine can be used to inspire your own spiritual presence in the body with it’s delicate fragrance. You can also use jasmine as an evening or nighttime meditation enhancement, in association with the feminine side, the moon, and the inner-self.

Good News Monday: April Blossoms Jasmine’s Soulful Scent is Spring’s Self Care gift to us if we choose to recognize it. Why not let it simply wash over you so you enjoy its many virtues. Not every intuitive insight is an insight put into words. You have emotional and core insights and expressions that surface far below the level of “words”. If you choose you can translate your experience of jasmine spirituality into language, but it is just as powerful to let it live on that sensual, emotional level, letting the body linger and sigh.
