Dear Wellness Seekers,

Ulele New Restaurant Waterworks Park Downtown Tampa – an arrival long anticipated is now building a great reputation as a Tampa destination for food lovers, especially famous for unique oyster dishes. It is located along the Riverwalk on the Hillsborough River overlooking downtown where the beginnings of a new lifestyle development are taking shape. This eatery was created as a labour of love by a family who is a pillar of Tampa’s unique Ybor City community – The Gonzmart’s. They are the founders of The Columbia a Spanish Restaurant that is iconic here as it retains its authentic ways – now so sought after for its food and Flamingo Dancer experience.

In a Spanista mindset, returning to Tampa after days on the road, I looked forward to enjoying a leisurely Sunday brunch with friends we adore I had not seen in months – at this destination Ulele.

The ambition for Ulele was to restore an old waterworks warehouse that had excellent bones but was left to ruins for years. The setting along the river held great potential as a lovely Riverwalk Park was now completed as you can see from the pics – the architectural design turned out splendid with a true urban vibe with a refined sensibility to the details.

They describe Ulele, as native inspired food and spirits, celebrating the vibrant fusion of ingredients from Florida waters and land once home to many native Americans, including the young princess Ulele. Expect intricately flavored, visually appealing dishes prepared on the 10 foot diameter barbacoa grill.

As Valentine’s Day approaches I love to share this back story story about Ulele discovered on the menu cover – so romantic.

“The Legend of Ulele. In 1852, the young daughter of local Tocabaga Chief Hirrihigua, pleaded and threw herself over 17 year old Yuan Oritz as he was about to be roasted alive in revenge for the tribe’s previous hostile encounters with explorers. Oritz, a member of the Spanish Narveaz Expedition, was spared. Whether love or pity prompted Ulele’s actions we will never know. But we prefer to believe it was love – just as we prefer to believe that the all-to-similar Pochahantas – John Smith story 80 years later is really based on this one.”

In the above pic you can see the stained glass windows on the top left that immediately draw your attention. The Art of Ulele is noteworthy. These fantastic stained glass panels are just one example of the thoughtfully curated art collection on display in the restaurant gallery. They deserve attention.

The 1789 signed French stain glass panels over the kitchen doors were purchased by Cesar and Adela Gonzmart at a 1972 auction in Atlanta for a house they hoped to build. They eventually designed and built their Davis Islands home around their prized panels. When the house was sold in 2003 after their deaths, the panels were moved to the Columbia Restaurant’s Centennial Museum in Ybor City before installation at their new home at Ulele over the doors to the kitchen. See more about our other Art of

 Dreams-Do-Not-Work-Unless-You-Do.jpegPINIMAGE

Dear Wellness Seekers,

Spanista Question: What Are Your Joyful Dreams?

Spanista wants to inspire you because Dreams Do Not Work Unless You Do. What does this mean? To me it means investing time on internal topics that guide how we want to live our lives in joyful spirit. It is about taking steps to not allow our jobs or kids or schedule to steer our lives where in we move through day to day life on auto pilot with no time invested in seeing the big picture and where you are in the grand scheme of things. Making Self Care a priority means devoting proper time to yourself and exploring your ever-changing needs and guiding your life accordingly to achieve true wellbeing and peace of mind.

So today, I have three questions for you to consider and reflect upon:

1. What are your dreams for the future?

2. Do you have a clear view of the most important one?

3. Does the most important one stretch you beyond your comfort zone?

May I suggest it is worth spending some time pondering the difference between happiness and joy. This deeper wisdom of the heart enlightens us to understand that happiness, while welcome as good hits of positive emotion that enrich our lives are however are fleeting moments of time. Because happiness does not last – it comes and goes. Joyfulness however, is a state of mind one can acquire and sustain as a level of contentedness and peace that raises the equality of our loves from day to day. Joyfulness is a positively potent lens to see the world through.

To open up your internal conversation – Begin by creating your own Personal Joy List. Writing a list of ways you can trigger positive, joyful feelings, can open up a new world. Note this list should not be about acquiring materials things. If possible, try to push beyond the materials things. Odds are the list will composed of less tangibles to be more relational. Try to write down at least 10 things that bring you joy, and then strive to prioritize to the top three. Seek ways to shift your lifestyle to align with these three joy values into your life on a daily basis. There is no better time than the current moment to live a joyful life. I could not see living any other way.

Spanista’s Question: What Are Your Joyful Dreams? Dreams Do Not Work Unless You Do means focusing on you first. Spanista’s can share from experience, the seeds I planted in the past through my thoughts and prayers on my Three Joyful Essentials have come to fruition. As time changes things externally, in 2015 I plant new seeds of positive possibilities internally. I sow ideas of abundance, and love, to cultivate feelings of joy, prosperity, and appreciation. As I live fully in the present moment, I am continually blessed.

Now that 2015 is in the swing, this is a great time to ask: What are your Joyful Dreams?

Dear Wellness Seekers,

Winter Delights Table Arrangements Warms Coldest Hearts brings Spanista Style home to inspire ways to enhance our nests. With the party atmosphere of Super Bowl behind us, we settle into the difficult part of winter which in the north and eastern US is particularly harsh. Why not turn a negative into a positive by embracing it. If waves of snow are making you feel home bound or if you are someplace with grey sky’s clouding your mood, here is a Spanista Style idea – Create Winter Delights, DIY.

Spansita Style celebrates the beauty of the season by bringing the positive spirit of Winter Indoors. Here are some great trends of themed table settings that captured my attention while traveling to New York and Las Vegas this January.

The first pic is a setting Saks Fifth Avenue on 5th Avenue, NYCity where a reinterpretation of the high style sensibility of Art Deco brings a new sophistication to a combo of white, crystal with splashes of gold and touches of furry textures. Subtle, paired back and refined, each piece is a minimalist’s expression of the season.

The next pic is from Zara in Las Vegas where another more playful winter delight scene brings the charms of nature indoors. Here white and sliver become the schemes anchors. Dramatic silver vases add the wow factor while feathers and snowy white owls add a charm and delicateness to the scene. The rich leathers chairs, glass table and mirror add reflective surfaces that make everything sparkle especially at night. Personally I adore the owls – so soft and cuddly there are also hints of this in the placemats. So comfortable a setting I feel like I would love to linger at this table until the wee hours of the morning.

Lastly here is a table top setting I found at Anthropologie at Rockerfeller Center that could be anywhere is your home to brighten up the atmosphere. What I love about this trend of contrast of textures – cosmic metallic sea urchins contrast against the sparkling snow  framed by lovely berch bark trees are presented under glass.

Winter Delights Table Arrangements Warms Coldest Hearts is about sharing Spansita’s take on luxuriating in the glorious shades of the winter season. These settings are meant to inspire self-care expression as a way of relaxing and finds the goodness in everyday life at home. You Winter Delight settings can linger until springs arrives bringing you days and nights of joyful living.

What Winter Delights scene are you inspired  to create in your home?

Dear Wellness Seekers,

Good News Monday Giving Back Playbook Motivates Action by way of solid guidance on alternative ways to make a difference. As you may recall, with Spanista Philosophy as a model, I took the month of January to assess where I have been in 2014, where I want to go and to mindfully plan how I want t o get there. By traveling most of the month, I was offered a great opportunity to sort out what is really important to me and how my life should be guided by it the rest of 2015. This is not about a list of should do’s, it is a a thought process that operates at a much higher level. Its is ore about setting the right intentions and building your world around it, which I have learned is takes learning new approaches to achieve joyful living.

Spanista believes joy blossoms within when you believe you have the freedom to make mindful choices about the direction of your life – establishing Self Care as a top priority lays the ground work for major adjustments – it becomes more about how you manage your energy to fuel a great life versus how you manage your time.  As I look back, I have come to realize the importance of ‘Giving Back’ to fueling my positive energy.  This means it will be on my list of Self Care Essentials that I am outlining for the new year.

True clarity arrived in my heart after I upon this special issue of Marie Claire in my styling salon. I have come to realize there are no coincidences, as I paged through it there was an immediate opening up of my heart when I came to the feature “So You Wanna Change the World”. (Remember they key uncovering joy is getting out of your head and into your body – where you FEEL JOY.) This was a thoughtfully crafted playbook for women in any stage of their lives to guide them into the giving back lifestyle. The question to ask yourself when you see ideas like this is: Do you feel the desire to take action? Are you ready to move to action?

What moves me? There is a deep sense of humility, loving of humanity and satisfaction that arrises from giving back experiences. It feels like a beautiful form of intoxication from this emotional cocktail. Sheer bliss that becomes addictive no matter how much you do – you want to repeat the feelings  – so why not it has to do more with commitment and consistency.

The good news is Marie Claire put the Playbook together for us. I salute the Editor-In-Chief, Anne Fulenwider on this splendid issue. It is one I will keep on my cocktail table as I immediately ram out to get a copy to really ponder the pearls of wisdom with in about this important subject.

The time is right to embrace our role as Citizens of the World. Do you agree?

Here are a few of the topics that resonated with me in the Giving Back Playbook:

1. ‘Start With What You Know by Venessa Kerry’ ( John Kerry’s daughter).

2. ‘Let your Talents Guide You’

3. ‘Buy Your Way To A Better World’

Good News Monday Giving Back Playbook Motivates Action hopes to inspire you to take the first step or step up your involvement if you are already in motion. As the globe slowly recovers economically, the time is right to embrace our role as Citizens of the World. To Spanista, it is a Self Care Essential for joyful living.

Do you agree? Is this the year for your to adopt giving back as a Self care Essential? What would you like to do to make a difference?

Dear Wellness Seekers,

Friday Wellness Tip Self Care Massage Releases January Tensions. What a welcome relief. Can you believe we are moving into the last day of the month? When I look back at January I feel like I did my best to live life to the fullest. But with that comes a fair amount of stress – traveling via trains, planes and automobiles from city to city, sleeping in different beds, carrying heavy bags, meeting loads of new people and getting less sleep than I like.

All this depletes the body, mind and soul. The high energy vibrations and intensity of external stimulus is absorbed into the heart with invisible affects.

As a virtual friend and fellow wellness seeker, Spanista is here to remind you that scheduling a Massage Ritual every month in 2015 is a Self Care Essential.

You need the proper time to get quite and focus on unwinding – giving your heart time to rest in solitude while a talented therapist takes full advantage of the opportunity to open the flow of positive energy so it flows evenly through your body. You need to remove any blocks in your body and mind that prevent this open flow. The focus it on the blocks you do not yet realize have built up. The aim is not to wait until you get to the point of physical pain before you realize you need this attention.

Heeding my own Spanista advice, I took time to escape to the Spa in the Golden Nugget Hotel before I got on a plane in Las Vegas to return home.

Just a few short floors away this was an opportunity I could not miss. A sauna bath before the 50 minute massage treatment and then again after did a world of good

Friday Wellness Tip Self Care Massage Releases January Tensions is Spanista’s dedication to reminding you to take this weekend to de-stress and start the new month out with a fresh start – body, mind, heart  in sync.

To Your Self Care Journey To Joy,

Ginny
