Smell the Roses, Spanista Philosophy Explores Wellness Belief #1

Take time to smell the roses my friend!

I took this shot on this morning’s Reflection Walk and had to share it with you. The freshness of a morning rain shower made for a beautiful wellness moment as I took time to smell the roses. The fragrance was intoxicating. To see the richness in living is to give ourself gifts – generous gifts of personal time – indulgent time to treat ourselves with honor. By focusing mind, body, heart on the moment we get in touch with our true nature. We were intended to feel happy and joyful as a way of life however, not just for fleeting moments.

As you visit me to explore potential of the Spanista Lifestyle, I invite you to become acquainted with its Philosophy. In the coming weeks I will share one of the Five Beliefs. These Beliefs focus on balancing the Art of Self Care with the Science of Self Care – a fascinating field of wellness that is just beginning to be researched extensively and understood. They are intended to empower you.

Here is Spanista Belief #1:  The journey to joy starts with understanding the most important relationship we have is the one we have with ourselves.

I encourage you to start you journey by reflecting upon this Belief during the week ahead. This is an easy and simple way to begin your journey to joy. You do not have to do any anything more than toss is about in your mind, heart and body anywhere, anytime.

As the remaining days of summer can be a bit more relaxed, many are on holiday with family or friends. Perhaps you can steal away alone as it is a great time to take a walk and relish in the glory of nature – where ever you are. It is up to you if you wish to leave your phone behind as this is a time to unplug completely, unless you want to enjoy some ambient music which can open up your capacity to get into a reflective flow. As you walk about, ask yourself where YOU are in this moment in time? (Stay focused on yourself.) What questions emerge? What messages surface? How do you feel? Where do you fit in the picture? Is sometime missing? Do you deserve to feel more joy?

Life gets more and more complex. Coping with the extremes of living – emotional stress, long periods of hard work, personal difficulties, extensive travel, unexpected influences – just dealing with the fast pace and general issues of life can be block the flow of energy – shut our bodies, down forcing us to lose touch with our true nature – which is to be joyful. It maybe time to think about your emotional wellness.

Not too long ago I had to revisit this exercise. You see, my role in life is one devoted to service, willingly, I spent so much time focused on the needs of others, external activities and outcomes there was little energy left for me. It was on a long flight from Dallas to Sydney, Australia where time stood still for 15 hours that a moment of truth allowed me to focus and reflect so I could get myself back on track. When I got to my destination I turned to a local spa and a talented massage therapist to help my body, mind and heart re-unit, and tackle jet lag to help me get in touch with my true nature. The flow of joy returned to uplift my spirit.

Yes, is became clear once again the most important relationship you have in your lifetime is the one we have with ourselves. It puts the power in your hands. You can take control of your intentions for a joyful life experience in the months ahead.

How about you? Perhaps this is a time to take stock in yourself? I welcome your thoughts.

To Your Self Care Journey To Joy,
